This first position paper of the Centre for the Protection of the Dark and Quiet Sky from Satellite Constellation Interference (CPS) of the International Astronomical Union lists the steps necessary to mitigate the impact of satellite constellations on astronomy. Resulting from 18 months of collaborative effort by a diverse group of experts, such as astronomers, industry representatives, and policy advisors, also includes significant input by various members of the ORP.

“I am grateful for the hard work by all contributors, and I hope that the willingness shown by astronomers and the industry to find common, harmonised solutions, will persist”, said Józsa. The CPS has already plans on how to proceed. “The next step is to approach regulators to discuss how we could implement these recommendations”, said Richard Green, Interim Director of the CPS.
