John Davies (United Kingdom) is an astronomer at the UK Astronomy Technology Centre which is located at the site of the Royal Observatory, Edinburgh, UK. He was the OPTICON project scientist between 2000 and 2021 and was responsible for devising and then implementing the common time allocation process for OPTICON telescopes in the 1.5 to 4m range. His scientific interests are in comets and asteroids and outside work he is interested in anything mechanical that flies.
In ORP he coordinates WP15 TA9 Optical TA, continuing in the role coordinating and promoting the optical telescope TNA and working with the joint activities to align the optical, radio and other facilities as much as possible.
